But, as reported on in a post by SamMobile, stats from Counterpoint Research have indicated Huawei edged past Samsung during April 2020. Their research claimed Huawei at that time secured a

19 per cent share of the global smartphone market, which was aided by increased market share in China. This is in comparison to Samsung, which saw their global slice of the worldwide

smartphone market fall to 17 per cent. The news will surely be warmly welcomed in Shenzhen, but despite this reprieve Huawei reportedly are expected to see smartphone sales in 2020 drop by

20 per cent. That means Huawei will have to return its newly-awarded Gold Medal very, very soon. This news was previously reported by The Information, with the estimate factoring the impact

of the US trade ban but not taking into account the effects of coronavirus. Despite the ongoing pressure from the Trump administration, Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei has no intention of

stopping dealings with US businesses entirely. Ren previously said: "We procured US$18.7 billion worth of parts from the US last year, a big increase from US$11 billion in the past. We

are not thinking of replacing US components. The US will always be our good friend."
