Speaking on ITV's Peston the MP for South West Surrey said: “In this election, we have someone who could quite possibly become Prime Minister who does actually have extremist views. Today we

had Jack Straw a former Labour Foreign Secretary saying our allies would not share intelligence with us if Jeremy Corbyn became Prime Minister. 

"Someone like Jeremy Corbyn would decimate our reputation internationally."

He continued: "The fact is the 5 Eyes are sharing intelligence now but many are saying they wouldn't share intelligence if Jeremy Corbyn became Prime Minister.

"Lord West who was Defence Minister under Gordon Brown said today Jeremy Corbyn doesn’t understand the principle of deterrence.

"That’s a pretty important thing if you're a Prime Minister.

"You’re responsible for our nuclear deterrent, that is something people have got to have confidence that you would know the situation of whether to use or not.

“For the first time in a very long time there is someone who is on the cusp of going into Downing Street who could be a real danger to national security. 

“That is something that I think will give people cause for thought."

Earlier this week Robert Peston told talkRADIO there was a possibility Jeremy Corbyn could become Prime Minister.

He said: "Do I think that Jeremy Corbyn could ever be Prime Minister is that what you’re asking me?

"My broad view is that this was the rational moment for Boris Johnson to call an election.

"But even though it makes sense for him elections are funny things."

Mr Peston continued: "But even though it makes sense for him elections are funny things. 

"People creep up on the inside track and even though Boris Johnson is something like 10 or 12 points ahead according to the average polls. 

"If you remember Theresa May was even further ahead of Jeremy Corbyn and although she ended up winning she only won by a fraction."

The upcoming general election will be held on December 12th 2019.
