Martin Daubney went one step further by suggesting the PM could take more decisive action by imposing an all-out ban on European trawlers in UK seas. The former Brexit Party MEP tweeted:

"The way to make the EU see sense on their shellfish blockade is simple: block EU vessels taking shellfish from British waters until they change their minds." Government ministers

A". Mr Daubney's call for EU fishing boats to be banned from entering British waters was backed by Brexit supporters on social media. One said: "The answer is stop all fishing

in British waters, and in that way if they want shellfish they are going to have to buy it from us. "It's time we stopped pussyfooting around the EU. "Northern Ireland is in

a mess through no fault of their own, our fishing fleet etc have been let down." A second person said it was high time Mr Johnson took strong action against the EU. They wrote: "He

shouldn’t be hesitant, he should just do it right now and provide direct support to our fishermen. "The French and Spanish will soon be screaming at the crooked EU to fix it!"

Others said a ban on imports of French wine would do the trick while another said the Europeans should have to pay high charges to fish in UK waters.
