The Government has recently greenlit the reopening of many hospitality businesses, with a number of restaurants and pubs expected to reopen from July 4. However, for Leicester a lockdown has

been reintroduced, to help tackle the rising number of coronavirus cases in the region. Leicester is now the first city to be placed back under lockdown in England, and  Prime Minister

Boris Johnson has thanked the people of Leicester for their “forbearance” in dealing with the new coronavirus restrictions. Health Secretary Matt Hancock has told MPs that non-essential

shops in Leicester, which were told to reopen on June 15, will close on Tuesday. In addition, schools will shut to most pupils from Thursday. Mr Hancock told MPs: "Having taken clinical

advice on the actions necessary and discussed them with the local team in Leicester and Leicestershire, we have made some difficult but important decisions. READ MORE: WHO OFFICIAL WARNS

AGAINST BECOMING 'TOO CONFIDENT' OVER CORONAVIRUS "We've decided that from tomorrow, non-essential retail will have to close and as children have been particularly

impacted by this outbreak, schools will also need to close from Thursday, staying open for vulnerable children and children of critical workers as they did throughout. "Unfortunately,

the clinical advice is that the relaxation of shielding measures due on July 6 cannot now take place in Leicester. "We recommend to people in Leicester, stay at home as much as you can,

and we recommend against all but essential travel to, from and within Leicester. "We'll monitor closely adhering to social distancing rules and we'll take further steps if

that is what's necessary." WHERE IS BACK UNDER LOCKDOWN FROM TODAY? The Health Secretary advised people from Leicester to stay at home as much as they can while the local lockdown

measures continue, to help curb the spread of infection. Leicestershire County Council has now released a map of the areas under the local lockdown, but the site is currently seeing a lot of

traffic. Leicestershire County Council have now shared the map on Twitter. It was announced earlier this week the lockdown applies to Leicester city centre, but also the surrounding areas

including Oadby, Birstall and Glenfield. The areas of Leicestershire included in the localised lockdown are: In Blaby District: • Braunstone Town (including Fosse Park) • Glenfield • Glen

Parva • Leicester Forest East (East of the M1) • Thorpe Astley In Charnwood: • Birstall • Thurmaston All areas of Oadby and Wigston. According to Leicester City Council, there are three

mobile testing sites in the city of Evington, Spinney Hill Park and Victoria park. A more permanent facility is on the edge of Leicester at the Birstall park and ride site, and an indoor

testing site will open from Tuesday at Highfields Community Centre.
