scientists used unique qualities of the helix to identify individuals. Dr Jeffrey Glassberg filed the first patent which explored this opportunity in 1983, and British geneticist Sir Alec
Jeffreys developed a profiling process the following year. Once established, authorities used profiling for the first time during an inquiry following murders between 1983 and 1986.
