A man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was “disturbed” to find remains as he walked along Formby beach on Sunday evening. He says he initially thought it was the body of a dog and rushed it

to the vets to check for a microchip so any owners could be informed. A National Trust spokesman said: “We are aware that a deceased wild rabbit was found on the beach at Formby on Sunday

evening by a member of the public, who subsequently removed the animal from the beach. "We understand that this member of the public was concerned about any upset that this animal might

cause to other visitors, and we are thankful for their concern in this case. "Although it may be upsetting to see a deceased animal like this, our ranger team are well trained in

disposing of carcasses and we have policies in place for them to handle deceased animals safely where necessary. "We would encourage anyone who discovers a deceased animal at our places

to get in touch with us so that we can remove it safely." Additional reporting by Kate Lally.
