The Prime Minister hailed the agreement from the likes of Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and the Cayman Islands as a “very positive step forward”. He said it would strengthen his hand
when he meets other G8 leaders tomorrow to discuss cross-border tax avoidance. The agreement means that the Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories have promised to share tax information
and also details about the ultimate owner of companies in their jurisdictions. However, the agreement falls short of full transparency. UK-registered companies would provide details on
ownership structures to Companies House, but they would only be available to authorities such as Revenue and Customs and not the general public.
