Apocalypse claim: christian persecution is a ‘sign of the end’

Christian conspiracy site Charisma News says a huge sign of the apocalypse is forthcoming, and the end begins with the persecutions of Christians. Charisma News said: “Many Christians in the

Western world don't even realise that the persecution of the end times has already started. “All over the world, Christians are being attacked, Bibles are being burned and churches are

being shut down. “We should do all that we can to put pressure on governments to stop persecuting Christians, but if we really are in the end times, ultimately the persecution is just going

to continue to escalate. “The good news is that persecution always brings out the best in the people of God, and I believe that the greatest chapters of the church are still ahead.” The

website points to recent examples in China where a crackdown from the Chinese government has seen authorities raid Christian homes to remove religious symbols, arrested church members and

seized churches. Charisma News also highlights persecution in Egypt earlier in September where radical Muslims attacked homes of Christians, leaving two people with knife wounds in the head

and face. Charisma News says the increase in attacks on Christians is a Biblical prophecy which will ultimately signal the end times. The site points to two passages in the book of Matthew

which reads: “At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. “Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold.” A passage from First

Epistle of Paul to Timothy adds that this will be due to the fact that humans will become selfish. The passage reads: “For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant,

revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of

pleasure rather than lovers of God.”
