The head of Ukraine's defence intelligence agency, commander Kyrylo Budanov, described a possible Russian attack on his country involving approximately 100,000 soldiers. Brigadier
General Budanov explained the invasion would involve airstrikes and artillery bombardments. The invasion would start with an assault on Ukrainian positions from the air. The Military Times
reported that this attack would involve up to 3,500 Russian paratroopers and special forces. A mass assault at ten points along the Ukrainian border would follow. There would then be
amphibious landings at the Ukrainian cities of Odessa and Mariupol. In intelligence models, Russia would be joined in its attack by troops from Belarus. Russia has branded the latest
Ukrainian intelligence report as "hysterical". However, Ukrainian intelligence suggest that Russia has deployed 40 "battalion tactical groups" (BTGS) to the border with
Ukraine. BTGs are large formations of troops, armour, air forces and artillery. These military units are designated specific missions by the Russian Army. READ MORE: BREXIT BRITAIN 'TO
LEAD EUROPE' WITH NEW REVOLUTIONARY PROJECT: 'TIPPING POINT HAS COME' Brigadier General Budanov dismissed suggestions the Vladimir Putin would be put off by the wintery
conditions at the beginning of 2022. However he added "it is no problem for us and the Russians". At present Ukraine is observing Russian troop movements along its border. Kyiv
warns that weapons are massing near the border, including short range missile systems. Last week US defence secretary Lloyd Austin met with his Ukrainian counterpart and spoke of the
"troubling behaviour" from Russia. He said: "We are not sure exactly what Mr. Putin is up to. "But these movements certainly have our attention. "And I would urge
Russia to be more transparent about what they are up to take steps to live up to the Minsk agreements. “Our support for Ukraine sovereignty territorial integrity remains unwavering."
