The girls, named Samreen, 19, and Sanam, 17, were critically injured in the attack which was carried out by a man only identified as Sajid. Both girls were asleep on the roof of the
single-storey family home at Koohi Goth in Landhi on Tuesday when the attack happened. The pair were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment and doctors have since
said they are both now out of danger. The man, a relative of the family, had previously asked the girls to marry him, but was rejected, according to the girls' father Qadir Buksh. Mr
Buksh told police: “Sajid has been interested in getting married with one of my daughters, which we already refused.” MURDER OF PAKISTAN STAR SHINES SPOTLIGHT ON 'HONOUR KILLINGS'
The father also stated it was not the first time the man had threatened the life of the family. A police official said: “Sajid is a member of a gang and also a drug addict.” Authorities have
registered a First Information Report, the first step in the criminal system, against Sajid and an investigation is underway, according to Shah Latif SHO Ikhlaq Ahmed. No one has been
arrested as of yet. Pakistan recently passed anti-honour killing and anti-rape bills in October 2016 which changed the country’s 1860 Penal Code, although the draconian anti-women laws have
never been fully repealed and violent acts against women still occur. The actress and model Qandeel Baloch (aka Fouzia Akeem) was killed last year by her brother who later confessed to her
