Hastings (played by Adrain Dunbar) has been in charge of AC-12 since Line of Duty first hit screens back in 2012, but his leadership has come into question many times. Even loyal colleagues,
Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) and Detective Inspector Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure ) have challenged him about whether he could be the criminal mastermind H. However,
with the events in season five of the BBC drama putting any suspicion about him being a rogue officer to bed, season six might have been a bit more plain sailing for the character.
Unfortunately, it seems the trouble will only continue, but will the Superintendent die as a result? GET CAPTAIN TOM MOORE A KNIGHTHOOD - CLICK HERE NOW Season five gave viewers the
strongest indication yet Hastings might have been H as AC-12 investigated the organised crime group known as the Balaclava men. They were supposedly being led by one of the criminal
mastermind’s henchmen John Corbett (Stephen Graham), who later turned out to be an undercover police officer in way over his head. As the drama continued, Hastings’ personal life was brought
into the picture as his estranged wife Roisin Hastings (Andrea Irvine) was assaulted by Corbet after it was discovered he was the son of a man killed during The Troubles in Ireland, an
officer who the head of AC-12 served with. Following this, the Superintendent began to impersonate H to lure the OCG to believe they were talking with their boss and the similarities between
the impersonator and the real thing were unbelievable. By the end of the season, Hastings was being interrogated by his own team, only for his former flame Gill Biggeloe (Polly Walker) to
be unmasked as one of five characters serving under the criminal mastermind’s alias. READ MORE: LINE OF DUTY SEASON 6: DS STEVE ARNOTT’S FATE ‘REVEALED’ With Hastings no longer in the frame,
it seems season six will only see his position even more important to find out which other corrupt officers are posing as H. From this and being such a pinnacle character in season five,
however, it seems the Superintendent could be taking a backseat from all the action. Adrian, 61, recently spoke about his alter-ego’s future and teased what viewers can expect from his
character as he, DS Arnott and DI Fleming continue with their mission. Speaking with The Telegraph, the actor said: “He’s absolutely there, but I don’t think we’re going to be focusing on
him and his personal life as much.” BACK BRITAIN'S BRAVE NHS HEROES - CLICK HERE NOW Maneet had been a part of AC-12 since season three and won over the hearts of fans, who were
devastated by her character’s death. Hastings’ demise could come from further suspicion arising he is still part of the OCG and could very well be a corrupt officer. Adrian added of his
alter-ego being part of the criminal empire: “No, I think that’s all been resolved. “But – as ever – you’ll have to have a word with Jed [Mercurio, the series’s creator] to know for sure,”
he quipped, so could death be on the horizon for the final episode of season six? As Adrian also touched upon, the newest season will focus less on Hasting’s personal life, with former runs
of the BBC drama exploring his home life. Long time fans will remember his marriage broke down to Rosin after the Superintendent invested a large sum of their money into a real estate
project which went bust. Although he promised a cruise after believing he would get a promotion at work, by season five it seemed she was fed up with his empty promises. The pair were
separated but not divorced in the most recent runs of episodes, even though it was revealed she had met someone else. After being tortured by Corbett, who she identified as Northern Irish,
Hastings was in her bad books once again. With a former flame working as a corrupt officer and a wife who no longer wants anything to do with him, this could be another reason the
Superintendent is killed, given he has no familial ties left. If he doesn’t end up dead, season six could certainly give viewers a new perspective on the character as a professional and
debunk their theories he is working with the OCG. With filming on pause due to the coronavirus outbreak, it seems fans will have to wait a little longer to find out if the head of AC-12
lives or dies? _LINE OF DUTY SEASONS 1-5 ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO STREAM ON BBC IPLAYER._
