Toyah Battersby (played by Georgia Taylor) has always longed to be a mother on Coronation Street, but her chances of becoming a parent have hit a hurdle at every opportunity. Recent scenes
on the ITV soap have seen the eco-warrior and her partner Imran Habeeb (Charlie De Melo) begin the process of becoming foster parents. However, their plans have been put on hold as her
sister, Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) was hit with the devastating news her son Oliver Battersby (Emmanuel and Jeremiah Cheetham) has mitochondrial disease. Taking the action to avoid any
insensitivity, could the pair be forced to reveal their news as the beloved character actually falls pregnant? Following the break down of her marriage to Toby Chapman (Andrew Dowbiggin ),
it was clear Toyah still yearned to be a mother. Her spouse thought it was because they went down the path of IVF to have a child their relationship broke down, but the beloved character
just didn’t feel her husband was committed enough. This led her to begin an affair with Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) and when the pair rocked up on the cobbles in 2016 as a couple, it
became clear they were going to start a family together. Due to her experiences in the past, Leanne’s sister decided she wanted to use frozen embryos she had been saving and the lovers went
on to find a surrogate. For a short time, it seemed their dreams were going to come true as she fell pregnant, only to suffer a miscarriage just months before the due date - but could Toyah
be about to be given another chance at motherhood? READ MORE: CORONATION STREET SPOILERS: SIMON TO FLEE WEATHERFIELD IN TRAGIC PLOT When the miscarriage happened, Toyah was the only one to
know and struck a deal with Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) to pass the baby she was carrying as her own. Peter never knew of the plan so when she brought home Suzie from the hospital, he
believed it was because their surrogate had given birth. The truth soon came to light when the beloved character realised her child’s birth mother yearned to have her daughter back in her
arms. This led her to lose yet another child and she also lost her partner as a result as he couldn’t forgive her betrayal. Executive Producer Iain MacLeod has teased there is a hurdle on
the horizon for the two sisters and although this might have been about the fostering plans, could a surprise pregnancy be a shock curveball to add to the drama? Speaking to press, including
Express.co.uk, the soap boss said of Toyah’s character: “She has been underused and she’s a fabulous character. “We’re looking to fix that. She’s obviously going to be a big part of the
Leanne, Steve [McDonald] (Simon Gregson), Oliver story and then there’s a parallel thread for her and Imran. “They’re making some fairly big life decisions of their own that are thrown into
disarray by the news Leanne and Steve get about their son.” “While everyone else starts to shut out from Leanne’s world and Leanne’s private emotional turmoil, Toyah’s her rock and very much
at her side throughout,” he added. Therefore, as Toyah is her sister’s biggest supporter during this time, could the news of a pregnancy drive a wedge between the pair? Having dreamed of
this moment her entire life, the eco-warrior could be forced to keep the news between her and Imran to ensure Leanne doesn’t find out. If she does find out she’s expecting, will she and her
partner still decide to press ahead with their fostering plans as well? _CORONATION STREET CONTINUES FRIDAY AT 7:30PM ON ITV._
