The Cuban heavyweight has caused a stir this week after originally topping the bill to face Anthony Joshua in the wake of Jarrell Miller’s failed drugs tests. After his manager Jay Jimenez
riled Eddie Hearn by turning down his “low ball offers” earlier this week, King Kong’s trainer Herman Caicedo has now claimed his man is willing to accept the fight with AJ. Just as Andy
Ruiz Jr, Trevor Bryan and Michael Hunter looked as if they were the final three names in the frame, Hearn has now been hit with a dilemma. Referencing his anger at Ortiz’s management for
turning down the fight, trainer Caicedo claims the 40-year-old is ready to rumble if a formal contract is presented. “I’m upset they [Jimenez] didn’t consult me more than they did and that
they didn’t take my opinion to heart,” Caicedo told _Boxing Scene_. “I’m around Luis every day. If we’re saying ‘We’re ready, take the money and the fight,’ you accept the f*****’ offer and
make Eddie show you a contract saying it’s real. “For now, we will continue training because we are always in the gym. Hopefully Deontay Wilder does his job against Dominic Breazeale (on May
18) and we get the rematch later this year. “But let me be clear—and this is Luis’ exact place on this (subject) — if Eddie shows us a real contract with no games, we will gladly take that
fight, whether June 1 or after that.” Hearn is said to have offered Ortiz £3.8million ($5million) to replace Big Baby at the iconic Garden, but he will not be in the mood for anymore time
wasters. Jimenez has also since spoke out and retracted his “low ball” comments, issuing hope that a fight could still be made. He claims that Ortiz’s promoter Jorge Carmenate of Dade
Promotions, scuppered their chances by trying to get more money from Matchroom boxing for a fight with Anthony Joshua. “I hope he [Hearn] does [make an improved offer],” Jimenez told _Tha
Boxing Voice_. “We want the fight. I think there was a misconception. I think I jumped the gun when I called it a low ball offer. “It is our promoter that is low balling him. The one that
financially backed us from day one. “He was trying to pull more money for Luis and for the team.” Hearn is preparing to announce Joshua’s opponent this weekend, but there maybe a delay
should Ortiz be reconsidered. “Luis said if you want to throw $5million in my bank I’m ready. But he said ‘I’ll get you more’,” Jimenez added. “We were all gassed up and they [our promoter]
kept promising us more but he f***** up. We got upset and it’s an ego thing.” Speaking at Juan Francisco Estrada vs Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in California on Friday night, Hearn expressed his
fury at Ortiz’s camp for their approach. “I told you I was gonna expose them, then they’ve gone, ‘Actually it was our fault’,” he told FightHype.com. “I’m sick and tired of people trying to
pretend Joshua is ducking fights when these guys are s*** scared. “Joshua would destroy Ortiz. Three rounds, no problem.”
