Liverpool target koopmeiners 'tells agent to reject them for another club'

Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners is reportedly set to snub a move to Liverpool this summer in favour of remaining in the Serie A. The midfielder is attracted by the prospect of joining

Juventus rather than heading to the Premier League, despite hinting that a move to England could be on the cards. Liverpool rebuilt their midfield ranks significantly over the summer as part

of a major reshuffle. Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Fabinho were among the veteran stars offloaded, with Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo being

signed as replacements. The quartet have hit the ground running in England and guided the club to second place in the Premier League, and their trophy charge is now fuelled by the hope of

allowing Jurgen Klopp to leave the club after lifting the title. The Reds are now on the lookout for a new long-term manager, with Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi among those options being

explored. The higher powers at Anfield are keen to ensure that they are prepared for the summer transfer window too, regardless of their managerial situation. Another midfielder is on the

agenda for Liverpool this summer, with reports from Italy claiming that Koopmeiners is their top target in that department. However, according to Corriere dello Sport, the 26-year-old is set

to snub a move to Merseyside, despite Klopp’s long-term desire to bring him to the club. The Netherlands international is ‘attracted’ to the idea of joining Juventus instead and feels it is

the ideal next step in his career. Koopmeiners also feels that he will be a ‘jewel’ at the Turin outfit and the team will be built around him, whereas joining Liverpool would see him become

a ‘great among greats’. As a result, the former AZ Alkmaar playmaker has given his agent, Bart Baving, an ‘unofficial mandate’ to reach an agreement with Juventus as soon as possible – with

personal terms and contract details unlikely to be an issue given the significant pay rise on offer. The news of Koopmeiners stance on a summer move will certainly come as a shock to

Liverpool after the player publicly revealed he was willing to ‘put up with the rain’ if it meant joining an English giant. Though a move still could be on the cards with the Reds as

Atalanta are demanding £51million for their No. 7, which Juve are not willing to pay and they are resting their hopes on reducing the fee required by offloading some of their fringe stars to

the Serie A outfit to bring the asking price of their top target down.
