Later this month when Gareth Southgate's squad meet up for the internationals against Germany and Lithuania both the England manager and Dan Ashworth will be planting seeds of ambition among
them about future England careers and Chris Earle, Head of FA Education, added: "It's around succession planning for England manager.
"Part of the process is to say, 'Within this cohort of this year's 26 Pro Licence candidates, is there any exceptional potential here... and what can we do to accelerate that?'
"Additionally, Dan and Gareth will be having informal conversations with the players. Wayne Rooney has already stepped on to that coaching journey."
