Conor McGregor has vowed to make “some recovery” from the brutal leg break he suffered during the UFC 264 match-up with Dustin Poirier last month. The defeat means that Poirier has the

upper-hand over The Notorious having won two of the fights in their trilogy.

McGregor’s leg break is complex in that he blew out both his tibia and fibula in his left leg. The incident happened at the very end of the first round after he had attempted to kick his

American opponent.

A day after the fight, the 33-year-old from Dublin had surgery in Los Angeles to start repairing the damage, and is more determined than ever to get back in the fight game after his rehab.

Speaking to TMZ, McGregor said: “We’re recovering, we’re recovering, sir.

“That’s what we’re doing. And it’s gonna be some recovery. It’s gonna be some recovery.

It’s [the leg] doing good, it’s doing good. Three weeks, three days- it’s been good.”

McGregor has reportedly already started light weight training in anticipation of an eventual comeback.

UFC chief Dana White was asked about a potential return for McGregor, and implied that it was certainly not at the forefront of his mind given the serious nature of the injury. Appearing on

the Pat McAfee show, White said: “As far as I'm concerned, Conor is out for a year.

“The doctor said it will be nine months before he starts training again, we're looking at it as a year.

In the wake of the defeat, McGregor has made various claims about his fitness and particularly the state of his leg before the fight even started. In a lengthy Instagram video, he looked to

explain the situation.

McGregor said: “I was injured going into the fight. People are asking me, ‘When was the leg broke?

"At what point did the leg break?’ Ask Dana White, ask the UFC, ask Dr. Davidson, the head doctor of the UFC.

“They knew I had stress fractures in my leg going into that cage.

"There was debate about pulling the thing out because I was sparring without shin pads and I would kick the knee a few times.

"So I had multiple stress fractures in the shin bone above the ankle and then I have trouble with the ankle anyway throughout the years of f***ing fighting all the time."

After seeing off McGregor, attention turns to who Poirier should fight next. The general consensus is that White should organise a bout between ‘The Diamond’ and current lightweight champion

Charles Oliveira.
