Spain’s Canary Islands are probably Europe’s best option for nearly guaranteed winter sun. The pretty islands enjoy temperatures in the 20s during winter. While Gran Canaria and Tenerife are
often the top choices for a holiday, Lanzarote is a great option for Britons. Lanzarote’s unique volcanic landscapes give it more edge than the average Spanish beach holiday. Whether it’s
riding a camel on a volcano at the Timanfaya National Park or exploring caves, the island is much more than beaches. Of course, it’s not a top beach holiday destination for nothing. The
island’s best-rated beach on Tripadvisor, Playa de Papagayo, is spectacular. The white sand cove is one of Lanzarote’s most popular beaches and it’s in the shape of a shell. Often calm
enough for snorkelling, it’s a great beach for children and it’s well sheltered from the wind. The beach is a little more remote so tourists might want to pack some snacks and drinks to take
with them. Irene Mulders wrote on Tripadvisor: “Beautiful and clean beach! One side is more enclosed with not many waves and the other side it is open, but can get quite choppy. Both have
crystal clear water.” ‘Ivan Kovac’ said: “The beach is wonderful, clean and the sea is mostly calm compared to some other places on the island.” ‘Peter’ said: “Amazing views and great
overall location. Blue sea lagoon is what you can expect. We absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone.”
