A pretty little town in the Canary Islands has been named one of the most beautiful in the entire Atlantic archipelago. The Canary Islands are an absolute Brit favourite when it comes to
holiday destinations. Each year the islands - which include Tenerife and Gran Canaria - are overrun by UK tourists on an annual bid to grab some sun, sea and relaxation. But if you would
like to get away from the busy tourist humdrum then here we take a look at a gorgeous village that is renowned for being one of the most beautiful - not just in the Canary Islands but in the
whole of Spain. Teror, in Gran Canaria, is a quaint little town which is absolutely steeped in history. The tiny town is located in the centre of Gran Canaria - and some say it’s the heart
and soul of the tourist hotspot. Exemplifying this is The Basilica of Our Lady of the Pine (Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pino) - a breathtakingly beautiful church which is dedicated to the
patron saint of Gran Canaria. Within this traditionally Spanish enclave is also gorgeous architecture that the area is known for with authentic wooden balconies. The official Gran Canaria
Tourist Website explains more. It said: “The municipality of Teror is situated in the central eastern region of the island, at an altitude of 543 metres above sea-level. “What makes the
municipal town of Terror attractive, is not only the great devotion that it professes to the ‘Virgen del Pino’, patron of the island, but it is also one of the municipalities with great
historical and natural values" As well as religious and architectural significance, as the tourism site mentions, the natural surroundings of the town are also famous with a number of
protected spaces including the Osorio Estate with mountains, gullies, cultivated land and woods. Those who have visited Teror have taken to travel review sites to talk about their
experiences of the location - particularly the church The Basilica of Our Lady of the Pine. One said: “Definitely want a quick step in in a nice little courtyard with some restaurants and
shopping around it. It dazzles inside a little more than the outside shows.” "Beautiful stunning and wonderful church,” said another. Meanwhile, experts said that over-tourism has put
the Canary Islands and its infrastructure under enormous strain which is no longer sustainable and that if the massive influx of tourists who visit the Canaries is not reduced then it faces
"systemic collapse". Campaign group Ben Magec-Ecologists in Action has spoken out after tourist figures for 2023 revealed a record number of visitors - 16 million with as many as
half of these being British.
