Gatwick Airport was found to be the worst airport for the highest amount of delays in the UK. A third of the flights from the airport were delayed for over 30 minutes last year. The report
by the BBC analysed 38,000 of 199,000 international flights last year between June and September, using date from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). It also found that Belfast and Luton
came in second place, coming in with 23 per cent of flights delayed over 30 minutes. Good news for those flying north of London, as Bristol and Birmingham were lower on the list, with just
16 per cent of flights delayed. Sadly, the month in which people are flying also makes a difference. Flights in June are most likely to be delayed, with most of the delayed flights being
Europe-bound. A Gatwick spokesperson told the BBC: "Repeated strike action on the continent over recent years and heavily congested airspace above parts of Europe and London, have led
to a significant increase in the number of delays caused by wider air traffic control issues outside Gatwick's control.”
