BRITISH pig producers are now able to use computer software to calculate production costs, allowing accurate comparisons with other units.
Defining the cost of pig production has been produced by BPEX, the National Pig Association, consultants, banks and government. The program is said to allow all sectors of the pig industry
to calculate and present production costs in one format, giving increased transparency and understanding among producers, processors and retailers.
A booklet explains how to use it and how results can be used to provide key indices and performance measures. The program is available from the MLC (01908-844708) www.mlc.org.uk *
