In 1996, a big piece of Middlesbrough history came to an end. After just over a quarter of a century, Berwick Hills Baths closed for the last time. Officially opened in 1970, the baths
became popular with generations and many will no doubt have learned to swim there. Perhaps you remember the portholes which allowed you to see people swimming in the main pool from the
junior pool? Or were you terrified at jumping off the high "top board".? However, it was not going to be the end of swimming facilities in east MIDDLESBROUGH. Berwick Hills was
promised a new combined pool and youth centre, as part of a £20m City Challenge project. In early 1998, the new pool - at the Neptune Centre - opened and has remained ever since, alongside a
