Shoppers were left stunned after a car ploughed into the entrance lobby of a Morrisons store in Hartlepool. The white vehicle was seen crashing through a front window of the Clarence Road
supermarket on the town's marina on Monday evening. People who witnessed the incident reportedly helped the driver from the car. Emergency services attended the scene and paramedics
assessed the woman "as a precaution". The driver has since been given a traffic offence report by Cleveland Police for driving without due care. An eyewitness on social media said:
"Loads of people ran to it and a kind man helped her out of the car," he said. "She had no physical injuries that anyone could see and ambo came quickly to see to her."
The entrance reportedly contained several bags of coal and mini barbecues. The witness said: "I was there and saw the coal n thought that’s a recipe for even more disaster, luckily
nothing went up though." A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said they were called to the scene at 7.15pm. "The driver was assessed by paramedics as a precaution and has since been
given a traffic report for driving without due care," she said. The North East Ambulance Service confirmed they attended but no-one was taken to hospital. "We received a call at
7.15pm on Monday, May 19, to reports of a road traffic incident on Clarence Road, Hartlepool," she said. "We dispatched an ambulance crew and a clinical team leader to the scene.
We treated and discharged one patient on-scene.” Cleveland Fire Brigade was also called to the store. A spokesperson for the service said two fire engines attended from the Hartlepool
station. "Cleveland Fire Brigade assisted in making the vehicle safe," they said. "The individual was left in the care of North East Ambulance Service." A recovery
vehicle was later seen removing the car from the scene. A spokesperson for Morrisons confirmed the store is open today. FOR BREAKING NEWS IN YOUR AREA DIRECT TO YOUR INBOX EVERY DAY, GO HERE
