A popular Indian eaterie has been told improvement is required after being handed a two-star food hygiene rating.

Delhi Lounge was visited by Food Standards Agency inspectors in March. The Linthorpe Road venue was let down by the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building.

Factors checked include layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control. Management of food safety, which includes systems or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served

is safe to eat was deemed "generally satisfactory" while hygienic food handling was rated "good".

The overall rating given by inspectors was "improvement necessary". The restaurant, which offers sit down meals or takeaway, has a score of 3.8 out of five on Tripadvisor and is rated number

45 out of 301 restaurants in the town.

Teesside Live has attempted to contact the restaurant for comment.

The firm's website states the team is "passionate about providing delicious and high-quality food" with a priority to "satisfy all customer needs". It goes on to say: "We offer a

variety of excellent food, prepared with the freshest ingredients to the highest standard", with dishes including biryani, balti, tandoori and rice dishes.

However, there are mixed reviews on its website, including the following:

"Amazing food as always when I have ordered from here but think you should get more than one poppadom for the

price they are." "Vindaloo was unreal!" "Food was appualing (sic). It was cold and the kebab had no salad. The prawn balti was 80% onions and veg. On speaking to the restaurant, refund was

refused requiring to go through Food Hub. Have been weekly customers since opened. Will take custom elsewhere."
