MobLand fans are being encouraged to keep their eyes peeled for an upcoming gangland drama. MobLand has been the talk of Paramount Plus, captivating its audience with tales of feuding crime

families since it first aired earlier this year. Its riveting season finale has left viewers on tenterhooks, buzzing with speculation about a second season. However, MGM+ has now announced

an unmissable upcoming show on Prime Video for true crime drama aficionados: The Westies. With filming set to commence later in the year, the excitement only escalates with the revelation

that Academy Award-winning actor J.K. Simmons is part of the project. From the celebrated mind of Chris Brancato, who acts both as showrunner and executive producer, The Westies promises to

be a compelling eight-episode journey back to 1980s New York.  The storyline will delve into the harrowing ascension of the notorious Irish-American gang that reigned over Hell's

Kitchen, offering a "gritty and kinetic" viewing experience that focuses on the infamous Irish mob, reports Belfast Live. The highly anticipated series is expected to start

shooting in Toronto, Canada come July, with plans to make its debut exclusively on MGM+. It will be available to viewers in a host of regions, including the U.S., UK, Germany, Italy, Spain,

Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Colombia, while Amazon MGM Studios Distribution will handle distribution across all other international territories. Though an official

release date remains under wraps, along with further details on cast and crew, what is known is that The Westies will be an eight-episode spectacle featuring none other than Hollywood

heavyweight J. K. Simmons. MGM+ head Michael Wright stated: "J.K. Simmons is one of the finest actors working today. His authenticity and intensity bring an invaluable quality to this

complex and exhilarating story, and we can't wait to see him bring this unforgettable character to life." Acclaimed actor J. K. Simmons has had a diverse career, featuring in

films, television, and theatre productions, both on and off Broadway. He received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the ruthless jazz instructor

'Fletcher' in Sony Pictures Classics' "Whiplash". This performance also earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award, Golden Globe, Independent Spirit Award, and BAFTA

Award, in addition to numerous critics' group awards worldwide. Also developed by executive producer Michael Panes, The Westies will explore the construction of the Jacob Javitz

Convention Center in Hell's Kitchen, the Westies' home territory, which "promises a financial windfall". Although the Westies are outnumbered 50-to-1 by the Five Families

of the Italian Mafia, their notorious brutality and cunning have allowed them to share the spoils through a delicate truce. However, internal conflicts threaten to "set a match to this

powder keg", drawing the Westies into the FBI's deepening investigation into the Italian mafia.
