If you're looking to grow your hair but not break the bank, a doctor has shared the best high-street shampoos for "thicker, longer" tresses. Dr Ree Adel shared that you
don't have to spend a fortune to get the hair of your dreams, recommending "drugstore shampoos for hair growth that ACTUALLY work." There are so many products doing the rounds
on social media that it can be hard to know what will really work. So Dr Ree wanted to share her top recommendations - and they won't cost you a fortune. She said: "Do you know
how a cup of coffee perks you up in the morning? Shampoos that contain caffeine actually do the same for your hair follicles. "They can help with hair loss that is caused by stress, and
they are also great for hormonal hair thinning". She recommended Alpecin and Plantur 39 as good places to start if you're looking for a caffeine shampoo that really works, and are
"super affordable". 250ml of Alpecin will set you back just £6.65 from Boots, where Dr Ree was shopping, and Plantur 39 costs £10.95. Healthline shares: "Using Alpecin on a
regular and prolonged basis may help prevent premature ageing of the hair. According to fans of the brand, hair becomes stronger from the roots and doesn’t fall out as easily". They did
highlight that it's important to note "results are anecdotal," and what works for one person may not suit another. Healthline also said that while real-world studies about
caffeine shampoo and their efficacy are "rare," caffeine does certainly have some benefits, including: suppressing the hormone DHT, which can contribute to hair loss; stimulating
hair growth; encouraging elongation of the hair shaft; and supporting strong, healthy hair growth. Dr Ree then shared another recommendation - Nizoral, which is an anti-dandruff shampoo. But
she said: "Trust me, it does way more than that." She explained that the shampoo contains ketoconazole, "which is not only antifungal and anti-inflammatory, but it's
also DHT-blocking." This means that "if you're dealing with androgenic alopecia, aka hormonal hair thinning, then this would definitely be worth trying," according to Dr
Ree. Someone in the comments praised Nizoral, saying it made their hair "better, silky and voluminous," calling it their "holy grail" product. WHAT CAUSES HAIR LOSS?
It's normal to lose hair. We can lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day, often without noticing. Hair loss is not usually anything to be worried about, but occasionally it can be a sign of
a medical condition, according to the NHS. Some types of hair loss are permanent, like male and female pattern baldness, which usually runs in families. Other types of hair loss may be
temporary. They can be caused by: * an illness * stress * cancer treatment * weight loss * iron deficiency They share that you should see a GP if you're concerned about your hair loss.
The GP may be able to tell you what's causing your hair loss by looking at your hair. Tell them if your hair loss is affecting your well-being, and ask what treatments are available.
Losing hair can be upsetting. For many people, their hair is an important part of who they are. If your hair loss is causing you distress, your GP may be able to help you get some
counselling.
