Key road closed after building hit by lorry

A key road through a Surrey village has closed after an incident involving a HGV. Surrey Highways announced on Thursday (May 29) that The Street, Shalford (A281), had been shut between

Church Close and The Seahorse Pub. Matt Furniss, Surrey County Councillor, Shalford Division and Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport & Economic Growth explained online that this was

because a home had been struck by a lorry overnight. The nature of the collision means there are concerns about the roof and parts of the building of number 38 collapsing into the road. So

far there is no indication of when the road will reopen meaning that cars will need to take a detour to get through the heart of Shalford and travel through to Guildford or Bramley. There is

a 7km diversion route in place which involves using Broadford and Old Portsmouth Road. More signage was put up overnight including signs at Pilgram’s Way and Tile House Road saying the road

ahead is closed. Motorists are also being advised that certain roads are not suitable for diverted traffic. These signs can be found at: A246 Epsom Rd Junction with Warren Road, Warren Road

j/n with One tree hill road, One tree hill road j/w Halfpenny Ln, Halfpenny Ln j/w Blacksmith Ln, A248 New Rd j/w Blacksmith Lane.
