national level in phonics, reading, writing and mathematics. At key stage 2, schools pulled their performance up from the bottom in 2015 to a mid-ranking position when compared with other
local authorities. Secondary schools built on last year’s improvement with a positive progress 8 score, which is above the national average. The proportion of pupils passing GCSEs in English
