After recording the highest single-day rise in deaths three days ago, Kashmir had ebb in deaths attributed to COVID19 on Saturday with five people succumbing to the viral infection. The
death toll for a day has been over five for the past 41 days. On Friday as well, a dip was recorded in COVID19 deaths and 8 people were reported to have lost life due to this infection. The
death toll in J&K has reached 701. Official data reveals that mortality due to COVID19 has been almost equally distributed across SMHS Hospital and SKIMS Soura. Among the 625 deaths that
took place in Kashmir division, details of which were available, 227 took place at SMHS Hospital and 217 at SKIMS Soura. In addition, 77 at Chest Diseases Hospital, 24 at SKIMS Medical
College Hospital Bemina (JVC) and the rest distributed across other hospitals in peripheries, including two medical colleges at Baramulla and Anantnag. Among the people who lost lives today
was a 43 year old paramilitary trooper from Manipur who was posted at Sanat Nagar Srinagar. He is the 12th trooper to lose life to COVID19 and was admitted at SKIMS Soura. He was admitted at
the hospital for a day only, a doctor at the hospital said. A 41 year old woman from Alamgiri Bazar Srinagar also lost life at SMHS Hospital. Both patients were admitted with bilateral
pneumonia, a health official said. A 60 year old woman from Guzarbal Ganderbal died at SKIMS Soura, while another 60 year old from Tangdar Kupwara admitted at SMHS Hospital also expired. A
70 year old woman from Khag Budgam lost life at SKIMS Soura Saturday afternoon, a health official said. 546 NEW CASES, TOTAL 36,377: As many as 546 new cases of COVID19 including 88 people
returning from outside, were confirmed in J&K today. With this the tally has reached to 36377. With a slight dip, Kashmir division had 332 cases today while Jammu division witnessed a
mild rise and reported 214 cases. In the past 24 days, today’s was the lowest daily count in the Kashmir division. As per official data, the lowest tally of positive cases for a day this
month was 238, reported on 04 August. Since then, the number of cases testing positive in a single day in Kashmir has ranged between 345 and 606. The cumulative total of cases in Kashmir has
reached 28195. Most fatalities attributed to COVID19 have taken place in Kashmir. The division accounts for over 90 percent of deaths reported to have been caused by the viral disease.
Today, 102 cases were reported from Srinagar district. Currently, Srinagar accounts for 27 percent active cases of COVID19 in Kashmir. Till date 9025 people have tested positive in Srinagar.
Among today’s cases, 13 were defence personnel, 13 randomly sampled people, 25 symptomatic and sampled and the majority of the rest contacts of known cases, mostly family members. 8 people
arriving from outside the UT to Srinagar and positive for the respiratory virus were also included in the cases from the summer capital. Little respite was seen for Bandipora which had 49
fresh cases. A health official said 36 of these samples had been taken from security forces camps in Dawar and Sumbal. Baramulla reported 18, Pulwama 22, Budgam 36, Anantnag 22, Kupwara 31,
Kulgam 12, Shopian 12 and Ganderbal 28. In Jammu division, district Jammu had the highest single day increase of cases today when 15 people were confirmed to be infected. 23 among these were
travelers. A total of 33 travelers in Jammu division were found positive today. Currently, Jammu division has 1817 active cases of COVID19. 648 people were declared COVID19 free today after
they tested negative following hospitalization or home isolation. The number of recovered cases has risen to 28020. The total number of active cases in J&K is 7672.
