Alan Shearer has included Tottenham ace Cristian Romero in his Premier League Team of the Week after his display in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Aston Villa. He praised the Argentine for
“throwing himself at everything”. Romero, 23, is starting to show Tottenham fans why Spurs have signed the defender for the best part of £50million from Atalanta. The first half of the
season saw Romero injured for large parts of the campaign. There were also instances in which Romero was travelling to South America to represent Argentina, and having to isolate at times.
Now, he is fully fit and regularly a part of the Tottenham starting XI. Shearer praised Romero for his display, as he helped Spurs to a fourth win in a row: “Defended on the front foot,
throwing himself at everything as Spurs weathered a storm in the first half and eased to a commanding win.” SHEARER ON ROMERO: TOTTENHAM STAR NOW ONE OF FIRST NAMES ON SHEET He has gone up a
level – not just because he is now fully fit, but also because of the arrival of Antonio Conte, who is believed to be a long-term admirer of the ex-Atalanta man having tried to sign him for
Inter Milan. Romero is brilliant. An old-fashioned, rock-solid, no-nonsense defender that seemingly enjoys 50-50 as much as Harry Kane loves scoring. But he combines that with the modern,
passing ability of a centre-back. Romero can play in the middle, on the right and has featured on the left of the back three. Spurs have got themselves a bargain, when they finally announce
the permanent addition of the centre-back.
