MARKET OPENING BELL: IN EARLY TRADE, 998 STOCKS IN THE NIFTY PACK WERE TRADING IN THE GREEN, WHILE 1,152 WERE TRADING IN THE RED. 79 STOCKS REMAINED UNCHANGED. Mumbai: SENSEX, NIFTY TODAY: A
day after experiencing a sharp correction, Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty started on a positive note on Wednesday, i.e. on May 21, 2025, amid mixed global cues. The 30-share BSE
Sensex was up 141.17 points to open at 81,327.61. Nifty too opened in green with a gain of 60.35 points, starting the trading session at 24,744.25. In the last trading session, the Sensex
closed at 81,186.44 and the Nifty 50 at 24,683.90. In the broader market, the BSE Smallcap and the BSE Midcap indices also started trading in the positive territory. From the Sensex pack,
Sun Pharma, Maruti, HDFC Bank, Tata Motors and ICICI Bank were in green in the opening trade, with Sun Pharma gaining 0.85 per cent. On the other hand, stocks like Eternal, Adani Ports,
Reliance and NTPC were in the red at the time of writing this news, with Eternal falling around 0.68 per cent. In early trade, 998 stocks in the Nifty pack were trading in the green, while
1,152 were trading in the red. 79 stocks remained unchanged. WHAT DID GIFT NIFTY INDICATE? Gift Nifty, an early indicator for the Nifty 50, indicated a positive start as it opened with a
gain at Rs 24,805, against the previous close of 24,774.50. ASIAN MARKETS TODAY Meanwhile, most Asian shares rose today even though US indexes fell after a rally that helped them return to
their all-time high set earlier this year. The S&P fell up by 0.4 per cent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.3 per cent. The Nasdaq composite slipped 0.4 per cent. At the time
of writing the news, Japan's Nikkei 225 was down by 92.48 points and was trading at 37,431.96. However, it opened in the green today. Hong Kong's Hang Seng added 122.6 points or
0.52 per cent and South Korea's KOSPI was up by 28.41 or 1.09 per cent. China's Shanghai Composite gained 13.01 points to trade at 3,393.49. HOW DID INDIVIDUAL SECTORS PERFORM?
Major Nifty sectoral indices traded in the green today, with the Nifty Realty gaining 0.89 per cent. The Nifty Pharma Index was up 0.71 per cent in the early trade. Nifty IT continued the
rally and inched higher by 0.47 per cent, and the Nifty Auto gained by 0.46 per cent.
