NEW YORK — The Dance Theater of Harlem has a savior. The Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest Fund has awarded the troupe a $1-million grant to help solve the financial crisis that forced the
company to cancel two major tours and virtually disband. “The Dance Theater of Harlem is a world-class ballet company and clearly a national treasure,” said M. Christine DeVita, president of
the fund. “Given the fund’s interest in building bridges between artists and communities, we would be remiss if we do not come forward to help the company, one of the first to form a
cultural link between Harlem and the rest of the world.” The fund was founded by the late Lila Acheson Wallace, co-founder of the Reader’s Digest magazine, to promote growth and appreciation
of the arts. MORE TO READ
