PROMOTIONAL ITEM: Everyone seems to feel that it’s a lousy time for the concert business, so why would Moss Jacobs, former general manager of Los Angeles-based Avalon Attractions, choose now
to launch his own new promotion firm, Moss Jacobs Presents? “This town is now fertile for a concert company to do things a little differently,” he says. A hint at Jacobs’ plans can be found
in his first events, a series of reggae concerts marking the 12th annual Bob Marley Day in February at the Long Beach Arena. Jacobs, who with Avalon oversaw past Marley Day concerts, has
expanded the concept to a three-day festival this year, running Feb. 12-14. The first day will be “Dance Hall Night” focusing on contemporary electro-reggae, the second will be “Singers and
Lovers Rock Day” and the series will close with a “Roots ‘n’ Culture Day.” Among the performers scheduled are Maxi Priest, the Wailers, Freddie McGregor, Andrew Tosh and Michael Rose. Jacobs
is also producing a one-day version at the San Diego Sports Arena on Feb. 15. MORE TO READ
