Valley residents can get an inside look at the world of crime fighting Saturday by visiting the open house at the Van Nuys Community Police Station, 6240 Sylmar Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Crime prevention tips, free fingerprinting for children and tours of the station will be provided during the event, which is free and open to the public.
Talks ranging from how to safeguard your car to earthquake preparedness will be performed by police and other public safety agency personnel. Reserve officers and Explorer Scouts will
conduct tours of the station’s detective unit, crime lab and jail section.
Children between the ages of 2 and 12 will also be photographed and fingerprinted for parents free of charge.
The event will also include a fund-raiser barbecue to benefit community outreach programs. Entertainment will be provided in a noon concert by the all-volunteer Los Angeles Police Band.
