Pittsburgh Pirate outfielder Andy Van Slyke, already on the disabled list with a broken collarbone, had arthroscopic surgery to remove loose tissue from his right knee. The surgery,
described as routine, is not expected to slow Van Slyke’s expected mid-August return. He has been on the disabled list since June 15. * Colorado right-hander David Nied took the mound for
the first time in seven weeks and threw for about 10 minutes before the game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Nied went on the disabled list June 4 after tearing a ligament in his right
elbow. . . . The Cleveland Indians waived right-handed reliever Ted Power after he declined a demotion to triple-A Charlotte. Power, 38, was 0-2 with a 7.20 ERA in 20 relief appearances for
the Indians this season. MORE TO READ
