A half-million-dollar restoration of the historic Oaklawn Bridge has been approved by the California Transportation Commission. The $534,000 project is intended to strengthen and restore the
86-year-old arched bridge to its former glory and bring it into compliance with seismic codes. The money comes from a federal fund. The city of South Pasadena will chip in another $60,000
to help restore the bridge, which has fallen into disrepair in recent years. City officials who requested the funding say they hope to begin engineering work when they receive official
notification of the project’s approval. The high-arch, one-lane bridge is at the south end of Oaklawn Avenue near Fair Oaks Avenue. The bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic
