Re “The Uniform of Peace?” (Feb. 17): As the parent of two students in the Long Beach Unified School District, I will never allow this government agency to deprive me of my basic civil right
to decide how to dress my children. I have no desire to raise my children to be sheep. They are individuals and I will dress them as individuals regardless of the school board’s attempt to
force all students wear uniforms. The Long Beach Board of Education knows that the education code does not allow a school district to impose a uniform on students and parents. That is why it
is supporting Senate Bill 1269. If passed, this law would allow a school district to take disciplinary action such as suspension from school against any student whose only offense is that
