A bill that would allow public schools to post the Ten Commandments on classroom walls died in a state Senate committee in Richmond. The Senate Education and Health Committee voted, 9 to 6,
to kill the bill sponsored by Republican Del. Scott Lingamfelter. Some members questioned his intent in submitting legislation similar to a Kentucky law that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled
unconstitutional in 1980. The measure would have required the state Board of Education to write guidelines for displaying the Ten Commandments. MORE TO READ
