three touchdowns and William Wagner added two for Bishop Amat (7-4). Long Beach Poly 33, St. John Bosco 22 The top-seeded Jackrabbits (9-2) used a quick-strike offense and a breakout

performance by junior receiver Desean Jackson to hold off the Braves (7-4) at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach. Jackson, often lost in the shadow of fellow receiver Derrick Jones, caught six

passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns as Poly advanced to a quarterfinal matchup with Huntington Beach Edison. Jones, a highly touted senior, had two catches for 38 yards. Poly ran only

36 plays compared to 75 for St. John Bosco. Jackson’s touchdown receptions were for 54, 27 and 60 yards, and they capped possessions of two, three and two plays. The Jackrabbits’ other

touchdowns were on drives of one and three plays. Both were runs by Anthony Torrell Baker -- of one and four yards. “Coach [Raul Lara] was harping on us that if we get out early they would

get intimidated,” Jackson said. “We just stuck to our plan.” The Jackrabbits led, 27-0, at halftime and extended their lead to 33-7 early in the fourth quarter. The Braves, who had problems

passing most of the game, scored all of their points in the fourth quarter, mostly against Poly’s reserves. St. John Bosco quarterback Patrick Cowan completed 16 of 36 passes for 146 yards.

_--Peter Yoon_ Los Alamitos 20, Santa Margarita 10 So much for the notion that Los Alamitos is a finesse team. The Griffins began defense of their Southern Section Division I championship in

decidedly smash-mouth fashion. There were no trick plays and not a lot of running outside the tackles. Instead, there was a lot of Joshua Jones running right up the middle. Jones rushed 30

times for 190 yards and the Griffins beat Santa Margarita before 4,000 at Long Beach Wilson High. Jones did most of the work, but quarterback Jimmy Barnes scored both touchdowns for Los

Alamitos (10-1) -- on one-yard sneaks. The Griffins also had two field goals by Brooks Rossmore as they advanced to a quarterfinal matchup against Long Beach Wilson. “After we lost to

Fountain Valley, coaches said that our personnel was not that of a finesse team,” said Jones, who switched from linebacker to running back after five games. “It’s a take-it-to-their-face

team.” The Griffins rushed for 231 yards and passed for 117. The defense, led by back Daniel Dykes, had a goal-line stand, and linebacker Chris Rados recovered a fumble that led to their

first score. “They watched Mater Dei and Loyola, saw where we struggled defensively, and wore us down,” Santa Margarita Coach Mike Jacot said. Russell Hoeflich rushed 11 times for 81 yards,

Redlands East Valley 27 Fountain Valley 36, Fontana 7 DIVISION II DIAMOND BAR 29, RANCHO CUCAMONGA 20 Diamond Bar scored 22 unanswered points in the first 16 minutes and held on for the

victory at Chaffey College. The Brahmas (8-3) secured the victory with 3:24 remaining in the game when Jo Beaudion scored on a one-yard run one play after Diamond Bar recovered a muffed

punt. Rancho Cucamonga (7-4) had cut the lead to 22-20 with 4:20 remaining in the third quarter on a 10-yard pass from Justin Fellhauer to Patrick Chung, but Fellhauer was stopped on his

potential tying two-point run. The Cougars got the ball back twice more before the muffed punt, but could only manage one first down all together. Diamond Bar built a 22-0 lead early in the

second quarter, taking advantage of good field position on its first six possessions to produce three field goals and two touchdowns. By the time Diamond Bar had built its 22-point lead,

Rancho Cucamonga had only one first down on offense. But the Cougars rallied to score twice in the final four minutes of the first half to cut the lead to 22-14. _--Dan Arritt_ Valencia 42,

Claremont 6 Jeff Bomberger rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns in 12 carries and had seven receptions for 127 yards to lead visiting Valencia. Bomberger, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound senior,

scored touchdowns on runs of 26 and 63 yards for Valencia (8-3), which will play the winner of the Chino Hills-San Clemente game in a quarterfinal next Friday. Bomberger’s first touchdown

capped a 74-yard, nine-play drive on Valencia’s first possession of the game. His second came with 9:45 left in the game and gave the Vikings a 35-6 lead. Claremont (6-5) cut its deficit to

7-6 on a pair of Ryan Harper field goals in the second quarter, but Valencia scored two touchdowns in the final three minutes of the first half to take a 20-6 lead at halftime. Sophomore

Mike Herrick, who completed 23 of 35 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns for Valencia, threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Shane Morales with 2:41 left in the second quarter to cap a

66-yard, five-play drive. The Vikings then drove 69 yards in six plays, capped by a seven-yard touchdown pass from Herrick to Joe Hernandez with 21 seconds left in the half. Claremont had

two touchdowns nullified by penalties in the first half and was penalized 12 times for 112 yards. Claremont running back Jamaal Floyd, who had touchdown runs of 80 and 29 yards nullified by

penalties, rushed for 58 yards in 16 carries. But he left the game late in the second quarter with what was believed to be a mild concussion. Floyd did not play in the second half, which

and scored on runs of 28 and 12 yards to lead the Antelopes at Beverly Hills. Antelope Valley (8-3), the second-place team from the Golden League, scored twice in the first 10:12 and led,

22-0, early in the second quarter, thanks to rushing touchdowns of seven and two yards by Aaron Wilson and a 23-yard run by quarterback Mychal Bogan. “I got going early and I think it just

opened up for everybody else, too,’’ Peters said. “I think that breaks a team apart when you start out like that. We’re aiming for the Home Depot Center [site of the Division III final], and

I think this was a good way to start out.” Peters, who helped the Antelopes advance to the Division III semifinals last season, had a 23-yard scoring reception from Bogan that put Antelope

Valley ahead, 28-7, with 5:36 to play in the third quarter. His scoring runs each came in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter and gave the Antelopes their biggest lead, 44-14.

Beverly Hills (5-4-2), the third-place team from the Bay League, scored on touchdown passes of 24, three and 71 yards from Ollie Linter. _--Lauren Peterson_ LYNWOOD 38, PENINSULA 28 Lynwood

scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns in a span of four minutes to rally for a victory over Rolling Hills Estates Peninsula at Lynwood Middle School. Marcello Simmons secured the victory by

returning an onside kick 55 yards for a touchdown with 4:15 to play for the game’s final score. Lynwood (10-0-1) will play host to fourth-seeded Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in the

quarterfinals. Peninsula (5-3-3) had rallied from a 17-6 halftime deficit to take a 20-17 lead on Dane Morck’s 11-yard touchdown run on the first play of the fourth quarter. After Lynwood

scored twice to take a 31-20 lead, Jordan Munde’s 44-yard touchdown run and following conversion run with 4:22 to play made it 31-28. Munde had 183 yards in 28 carries to set a school season

and passed for another and host Agoura forced three second-half turnovers en route to its sixth consecutive victory. Agoura (10-1) trailed, 8-7, at halftime but took a 13-8 lead on an

eight-yard run by Walker with 7:49 left in the third quarter to cap a 13-play, 69-yard drive. Agoura extended its lead to 19-8 on a 14-yard run by Joey LaRocque with five seconds left in the

third quarter. Braden Lepisto caught five passes for 97 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown pass from Walker with three minutes left in the first half that gave Agoura a 7-6 lead. Kellen

Moriarty rushed for 69 yards in 17 carries and completed 13 of 25 passes for 128 yards for Dos Pueblos (5-4-2). Moriarty was sacked four times and fumbled once. Antwon Williams recorded two

Gerhart’s fifth touchdown, on a 26-yard run in overtime, lifted Norco over visiting Hemet. Norco quarterback Kirk Philbrook connected with Gerhart on a 67-yard scoring strike with 6 minutes

21 seconds left in the game to pull the Cougars (10-1) to within 34-28. Norco drove 57 yards on its next possession to tie the score on Gerhart’s one-yard run up the middle with 2:02 left.

The extra point attempt was wide left. Hemet quarterback Brandis Dew, who accounted for 543 yards of offense, fumbled on the Bulldogs’ first play in overtime and Norco linebacker Steve

Gearhart recovered. Dew completed 22 of 47 passes for 380 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed 19 times for 163 yards and two scores. Gerhart gained 279 yards and scored four

Matadors advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division VI playoffs. Robert Morales scored three second-quarter touchdowns on runs of one, 26 and 17 yards as La Mirada (9-2) took a 27-0

halftime lead. The Matadors piled up 213 yards of offense in the first half compared to the Wolverines’ 62. Kyle Gran was responsible for La Mirada’s other touchdowns, scoring on a

three-yard run in the second quarter and another three-yard run to culminate the opening drive of the second half. Gran finished with 139 yards in 17 carries and Morales had 83 in seven

carries. Aliso Niguel scored with four minutes left to play when Tyler Zanolli returned an interception 80 yards. The Wolverines (7-4) scored again as time expired when Jordan Flemings
