Major 200-home and shops plan takes step forward

An application to concrete over a golf course to make way for 200 homes has taken a step forward. Developer Hallam Land Management Ltd originally submitted an application to Blaby District

Council (BDC) to build new homes over most of Blaby Golf Course in July last year. Since then, 1,765 objections have been raised regarding the application. Just 20 people have written in

support of the plan. A petition was also created objecting to the plans. The 200-home development is the second application proposed for the course. In November 2023, Davidsons Homes

submitted a bid for 53 homes on the disused allotments at the edge of the course and on part of the adjacent fairway. That application has been approved in principle. READ MORE:

Leicestershire school set for 210 extra students as extension plan approved Concerns over the plans have been voiced far and wide online, with some fearing its impacts on local

infrastructure. One person on the Spotted Blaby Community page on Facebook said: "Lived in Narborough 35 years, have to wait a month for an appointment to see a doctor, what happens to

us if new houses are built?" A second said: "Leave it alone for people to enjoy going to the golf centre, the restaurant and shop, it's lovely up there. What happened to

people's mental health and fresh air, wildlife and green space. No more houses in Blaby please, it's so sad to see such a good place go for houses." Since Hallam Land

submitted the plan last year, Leicestershire County Council has sought further information from the developer about the plan. The council, acting as the Local Highway Authority (LHA), first

requested information and further advice in August last year and again in January this year. Last month, they advised that further information was needed once again. In its latest response,

the LHA said it did not consider that the application had "fully assessed the highway impact of the proposed development" and requested a "revised, cohesive submission".

Alongside requests for new drawings and further information, the LHA also asked for further specific details on road layouts "to enable a full review". It also advised the

applicant to consider the updated Leicestershire Highway Design Guide (LHDG), as part of the application "especially regarding the new augmented access standards which would support

sustainable transport provision when noting the nearby available cycle infrastructure". The LHA added: "Without this information, the local highway authority is unable to provide

final highway advice on this application". Hallam Land has since responded to the requests, with "resubmitted drawings showing amendments" following the LHA's advice. The

highways authority will now be consulted on the revised plans, while no date for a decision on the wider scheme has been given. We are now bringing you the latest updates on WhatsApp first
