People are being asked to give feedback on a dog control policy which includes £100 on-the-spot fines for people who do not pick up their pets' poo. Oadby and Wigston Borough Council
wants feedback on its Dog Control Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), which is reviewed every three years. Questions on the consultation, which runs for 10 weeks, cover areas relating to
dog fouling and keeping dogs on leads. They include residents being asked whether they think the council should continue to enforce making it an offence if a person in charge of a dog fails
to clean up its faeces, and if they support dogs being restricted from entering designated areas including churchyards, play areas and allotments. In August, in North West Leicestershire,
dog walkers were also warned that they could also face on-the-spot fines for not picking up after their pets in Coalville Park. North West Leicestershire District Council said that
enforcement officers would be patrolling areas of the Park after “reports of dog fouling”. The authority said that anyone found not to be picking up after their dog, or not having bags
available when asked, would be given an on the spot fixed penalty notice of £100. READ MORE:Leicestershire area plagued by 'nightmare' parking consulted on residents-only scheme At
the time, the council reminded dog walkers in a post on its social media that it was an offence under its Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to allow dogs into enclosed children’s play
areas or designated sports areas. It said: “Dog owners - please act responsibly and keep an eye on what your dog is doing. Bag it and bin it!” The Oadby and Wigston consultation can be found
