MORRISONS WILL OVERHAUL ITS UK SUPERMARKETS BY SCRAPPING THOUSANDS OF ITEMS AND REPLACE THEM WITH PREMIUM FARM SHOP STYLE PRODUCTS 20:49, 01 Jun 2025 Morrisons has unveiled plans for a

sweeping reform across its UK stores, with intentions to eliminate 2,500 items. In a move to revamp its supermarkets, the brand is ditching thousands of items, replacing them with high-end

farm shop style products. This renovation is being referred to as 'Morrisons Magic' and will be overseen by Director Andrew Staniland. The Warrington branch has already seen these

changes during a trial phase, which resulted in 500 new additions to the store's inventory while others were taken out. The refresh of Morrisons will centre on its Market Street

selection, a favourite among customers for accessing fresh meat, seafood, vegetables, and bakery items. Good news is on the horizon for bargain seekers as Morrisons hones its focus on

transparency in pricing and delivering value. Mr Staniland told The Grocer: "It's early days, we are testing and we are learning, but the Morrisons Magic programme is now well

underway. Article continues below "The trial in Warrington is going really well and customer reaction has been fantastic. Market Street's modernisation is continuing at speed and

the farm shop influence and added-value fresh products is really catching our customers' eyes.", reports Birmingham Live. "And through the rest of the store the crisper,

cleaner look is underscoring our value credentials, together with a tighter focus on customer favourites, some great innovations and some wonderful new products." Morrisons is gearing

up to revamp its Market Street offering as part of a broader shake-up within the supermarket's trading team. The proposed restructuring includes merging certain category director

positions into heads of trading areas, accompanied by a title change for buyers, who will henceforth be referred to as traders. According to Mr Staniland, who spoke with the publication:

"I've been listening hard to our customers, colleagues and suppliers and learning a great deal about where we are and what we need to focus on – and the plans are coming together

really well now." This reorganisation is intended to pave the way for the creation of the "Market Street of tomorrow", an initiative previously identified by chief executive

Rami Baitiéh as a key distinguishing factor between Morrisons and its competitors. Article continues below It comes after Morrisons announced that 17 convenience stores and 52 store cafés

would be closing. The supermarket also confirmed the closure of a number of in-store services including all market kitchens as well as 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies.
