2025Police cordon on Dulas Green, Kirkby.(Image: Liverpool ECHO) Police have issued an update after a seven-year-old girl and 22-year-old woman were attacked by a dog. Emergency services
were called to Dulas Green in Kirkby shortly before 6pm on Thursday, May 29.
The little girl was bitten by the dog, suffering bite injuries to her arm and leg after playing outside. A 22-year-old woman suffered puncture wounds to the leg, arm, and hand after she
tried to remove the dog from the child.
Both were taken to hospital for treatment and the girl required emergency surgery for a number of serious injuries. In an update today, Monday, June 2, Merseyside Police confirmed the
seven year-old girl remains in hospital.
The 22 year-old woman has been released from hospital. A 54-year-old man from Southdene, Kirkby, was arrested on suspicion of being the owner/person in charge of a dog dangerously out of
control causing injury, and production of a class B drug (cannabis).
A 23-year-old man, also from Southdene, Kirkby, was arrested on suspicion of being the owner/person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury. The force added the two
arrested have been bailed pending further enquiries.
Neighbours managed to contain the dog, believed to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. One neighbour, who did not want to be named, told the ECHO how he was outside having a drink after work
when he heard two children "screaming" and running down the road.

Speaking to the ECHO, he said: "When we looked back, the dog had actually got one of the girl's and pulled her to the ground. I ran over then, and my wife threw bricks at the dog, which you
can see smashed on the ground, and they just bounced off the dog's head.
"I ran to get a brush, and by that time it already had a few bites. By the time I got the brush and got it away, it was over [the road]." The man said another neighbour came out to help, and
the dog reportedly attacked him and his daughters, with one of his daughters also suffered from bite wounds.
He added: "[The neighbour] got the dog to the ground and he was holding it down. Then I ran in [the house] to get a cage and I assembled the cage and said 'we've got to get this dog in the
cage or it's going to get out'. We then managed to get it in." He added: "You read about these things and think 'Jesus Christ' but don't expect it on your doorstep."
The dog was seized and following the incident, a nearby property was searched, and several cannabis plants were located and seized. Dulas Green was cordoned off by police.
Forensic officers also arrived and were seen taking photographs for evidence. At the height of the incident, an air ambulance was seen landing on greenery close to the scene. One neighbour
said around 15 police cars also attended and two ambulances.
