FAILING TO ENSURE YOUR PASSPORT IS STILL VALID IN PLENTY OF TIME BEFORE TRAVELLING COULD RESULT IN SOME EXPENSIVE CHARGES. 11:16, 03 Jun 2025 Brits gearing up for a summer getaway must
ensure they have a crucial document sorted in time, or they could be hit with a hefty £222 fee. A lack of preparation could even see travellers miss their holiday entirely. Following a
recent hike in fees, an urgent one-day passport now comes with a price tag of £222, a necessity for those who realise too late that their passport has expired. GOV.UK states that the
standard processing and delivery time for a new passport is around three weeks. However, this timeframe may extend if additional information is required by the passport office. Luckily, if
you're cutting it fine with your travel plans, there are a couple of expedited options available. GOV.UK advises: "You can pay to get a passport urgently if you think the standard
service will take too long." But to use these urgent services, an appointment at a passport office is mandatory. ONE-DAY PREMIUM For those needing a swift solution, the one-day premium
service is an option. The soonest you can secure an appointment is two days post-application. GOV.UK instructs: "You'll need to hand in your old passport at your appointment".
"Your new passport will be ready to collect from the passport office four hours after your appointment." Article continues below However, this expedited service is exclusive to
adult passport renewals. The cost for this service is £222 (or £235 if you require a 54-page frequent traveller passport). By comparison, the standard fee for renewing a passport is £94.50
online or £107 via paper application. ONE-WEEK FAST TRACK For those requiring urgent passport services, the one-week fast track option is available. Upon application, the earliest
appointment can be scheduled for the following day. The newly issued passport will be delivered via courier precisely one week after the appointment. This service can be used for various
needs, including: * Renewing a passport * Updating personal information (e.g., name, birthplace, or gender) * Replacing lost, stolen, or damaged passports * Obtaining a child's
passport. The associated costs are: * £178 for a standard adult passport (£191 for a 54-page frequent traveller variant) * £145 for a child's passport (£158 for a 54-page frequent
traveller variant). Prior to travel, it is essential to verify the entry requirements of your destination country. For instance, when visiting an EU country, ensure your passport remains
valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure date and that it was issued within the past decade. LOST, STOLEN, OR DAMAGED PASSPORTS If your passport is lost or stolen, it
must be cancelled before applying for a replacement. Similarly, damaged passports necessitate replacement. GOV.UK advises: "You may not be able to travel with it." HM Passport
Office deems a passport damaged if: * Your details are illegible * Pages are torn, cut, or missing * The cover has holes, cuts, or tears * The cover is detached * Pages are stained (e.g.,
due to ink or water damage). Article continues below For further details, please visit gov.uk/browse/abroad/passports.
