A NUMBER OF UK FESTIVALS AND VENUES HAVE THEIR OWN RULES ABOUT VAPE USE 11:14, 21 May 2025 Recent discussions around the smoke-free legislation impacting outdoor spaces, particularly beer
gardens, has left some people confused regarding the rules around whether you’re allowed to vape and smoke in certain spaces. As the temperature increases across the UK, and people get
excited for summer, Markus Lindblad, who specialises in nicotine at Northerner, has shared the smoking and vaping rules people need to know, whether they’re attending festivals, concerts,
race days or even just the local beer garden. Markus said: "A potential UK-wide ban on outdoor smoking has been hotly debated, although nothing has been put into place yet. Whilst it’s
not illegal, landlords do have the right to restrict vaping and smoking in their beer gardens. "In some venues, especially those which are especially family-friendly or serve food
outside, it’s expected that bans will start creeping in. "Ignoring these rules could lead to you being asked to leave, and even banned from entering the pub again in the future. Before
sitting down for a smoke, check your local pub rules to avoid any ‘run-ins’ with the landlord." The stands at racecourses, while largely outdoors, also do not allow smoking or vaping,
most likely due to the amount of crowding in a small space. Article continues below One of the most popular race meets, Cheltenham, does not permit smoking or vaping on the public stepping
areas or seated public balconies. Before attending the races this summer make sure you check the racecourse website for smoking and vaping rules. When it comes to the rules at festivals,
Markus said: "A lot of festivals will have designated smoking and vaping sections, but the rules vary wildly. "If you’re heading off to a festival this summer, do your homework on
the specific rules before packing, or you could be in some hot water." RULES AT SOME OF THE UK’S BIGGEST FESTIVALS THIS SUMMER: GLASTONBURY Even though it’s not illegal to use
disposable vapes after the ban, Glastonbury still has them on the ‘what not to bring list’. Anyone found with a disposable vape will have it confiscated. Festival-goers will not be permitted
to smoke or vape in enclosed public spaces, including tented structures. CREAMFIELDS Creamfields banned disposable vapes last year and is continuing with the ban this year too, however,
refillable vapes will be permitted. PARKLIFE Article continues below As a general rule festival goers can smoke or vape in open-air areas, but not within an enclosed environment, such as the
big tops or tents. If unsure, there will be ‘no smoking’ signs around the festival to guide people. READING & LEEDS Attendees are not allowed to bring excessive amounts of cigarettes
beyond personal consumption and if found, they will be confiscated. Disposable vapes are banned across both festivals, however, refillable vapes will be permitted.
