A MAJOR SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATION IS CONTINUING 14:43, 29 May 2025 A young girl 'toppled off' a dam wall into the water below in front of her dad while taking a photograph,
according to reports today (May 29). Search and rescue teams returned to a reservoir near Greater Manchester on Thursday morning for a second day after the incident on Wednesday (May 27).
Baitings Dam is a large reservoir close to Ripponden in the West Yorkshire Pennines. The girl - reported as being 13 - was visiting the popular beauty spot at the start of the school
holidays with her father when tragedy struck, say reports on Thursday. An uncle has reportedly revealed what happened to the schoolgirl. Article continues below The relative, a cabbie who
did not want to be named, told Mailonline: "It is absolutely tragic. My poor 13-year-old niece was just taking a photograph when she toppled off the dam wall to the water below. I think
she hit her head as she has fallen." The dam wall is thought to stand around 60ft to 70ft above the water line, which is is low due to the recent dry weather conditions. _JOIN THE

here last week. As as I heard she had fallen into the water I rushed up here to see if I could help in the search." Emergency services were first called out to the scene at around
1.17pm on Wednesday afternoon. Officers received reports that a girl had fallen into water at the reservoir, off Rochdale Road, between Littleborough and Ripponden. Article continues below
Underwater search teams joined police, firefighters and paramedics at the Yorkshire Water reservoir. West Yorkshire Police told the Manchester Evening News that searches remain ongoing this
morning. Two police search boats have been seen in attendance this morning. In a previous statement issued by West Yorkshire Police on Wednesday, a force spokesperson said: "Shortly
after 1.17pm this afternoon police were called to a report a girl had fallen into water at Baitings Dam near Ripponden. "Emergency services are currently on the scene, with searches
ongoing to locate the girl."
