Coronation Street star Sydney Martin has 'highlighted' the difference between her real age and on-screen age as she enjoyed a 'first' since landing a role in the

long-running show. The actress is now best known for playing Betsy Swain in the ITV soap. But joining Corrie was Sydney's big break, having previously auditioned for other roles in the

programme. Sydney, from Rossendale, was officially revealed as being Betsy Swain, the daughter of established character DS Lisa Swain, last summer after already popping up in the ITV soap,

simply as Sabrina Adetiba's mate. The role is Sydney's first major TV move and previously speaking about landing the job, Sydney, who is 23 but playing 16-year-old Betsy, told the

Manchester Evening News and other press that she originally applied for two smaller roles at the beginning of 2024. However, two weeks later, she was invited to audition for the role of

teenager Betsy, which she was given after a two-month audition process. She then made her on-screen debut last summer as Betsy arrived on the Cobbles amidst the shocking Joel Deering and

Lauren Bolton grooming storyline, before it was revealed that she was the daughter of Lisa and her late partner, Becky. Article continues below Now, Sydney has been seen enjoying her first

British Soap Awards, with the 2025 edition of the event taking place on Saturday (May 31) following a year break. She was seen heading to the star-studded bash with her on-screen mum, Vicky

Myers, and her co-star pal Cait Fitton, who plays Lauren Bolton in the ITV soap. Alongside pictures of herself and Cait on Instagram, in which they both dazzled in very different gowns, with

Cait jumping into a golden glitzy number with its own hood detail while Sydney sparkled in a fitted blue number, she wrote: "First Soap Award," before adding: "Love my Corrie

family." And the comments quickly came flooding in. Abi Webster star Sally Carman-Dutting gushed: "Beautiful baba’s." Harriet Bibby, who plays Corrie's Summer Spellman,

replied: "Gorgeous gorgeous girls." Hollyoaks star Isabelle Smith, who is one of Sydney's off-screen besties, shared: "love you gorgeous." @swarlaxo said: "The
