SHOPPERS ARE RUSHING TO LIDL TO GET THEIR HANDS ON THE SUPERMARKET'S NEW ITALIAN-STYLE ICE CREAM WHICH THEY CLAIM IS THE 'BEST EVER' - AND THERE ARE SEVERAL FLAVOURS YOU CAN
PICK FROM 17:33, 02 Jun 2025 Summer screams for ice cream, and Brits are no strangers to it. The average person in the UK consumes around nine litres each year, placing them in the global
top 10 for ice cream consumption, as revealed by Little Moons. When it comes to varieties, Italian gelato is celebrated worldwide, renowned for being handmade with less butterfat and air
than other frozen treats, giving it more intense flavours and a smoother texture. Some historians trace gelato's origins back to Sicily in the ninth century. However, others credit
Cosimo Ruggeri and Bernardo Buontalenti for inventing the gelato of today during the 16th century. While finding 'normal' ice cream is easy in the UK, wanting to indulge in
traditional Italian gelato doesn't mean you have to jet off abroad. Lidl has just made authentic Italian-style ice cream readily available at their stores, causing quite the stir with
shoppers who are 'running' to get their hands on a tub or two. Taking to TikTok, Freya Watkins uploaded a video of her Lidl shopping trip on May 31, where she found the
sought-after ice cream tubs in the freezer aisle. "Runnn to Lidl for their new Italian style ice cream," she captioned her video. Article continues below With flavours including
hazelnut praline, raspberry cheesecake, vanilla pecan crunch and banana chocolate caramel swirl on sale for just £3.49 a tub, it's no wonder these ice creams have grabbed people's
attention. Fellow TikTok user Lucy Gibb couldn't resist sharing her own taste test experience on social media, sampling the hazelnut praline, raspberry cheesecake, and banana chocolate
caramel swirl flavours - all of which received glowing praise. Leading the lineup was the raspberry cheesecake flavour, which Lucy rated an impressive "11/10," noting:
"Reminds me of my childhood [favourite] Mr Whippy with raspberry sauce!" Following close behind, the hazelnut praline - reminiscent of a Kinder Bueno chocolate bar, according to
Lucy - scooped up a score of 8.5/10. Meanwhile, the banana chocolate caramel swirl exceeded expectations with a solid 9/10, as Lucy admitted she typically isn't a fan of artificial
banana flavour. "Did not expect to like this as I don't enjoy artificial banana but it did not give this at all - really yummy," she said. It wasn't long before
enthusiastic responses flooded the comments section of the two videos, with several individuals eager to try the ice cream themselves. "There are not enough banana flavoured desserts in
this world this looks incred," one viewer wrote, while another added: "seeing this video after buying the vanilla pecan crunch, it's soooo good. Article continues below
"I saw those .. I picked one up then put it down, I'll grab one next time," a third viewer chimed in. Another commenter went as far as to declare: "The best ice cream
range ever made." "I want all these, but just done the big monthly shop, so literally no freezer space for them," commented another viewer.
