Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell didn't discuss the economy or the path ahead for interest rates in brief opening remarks on Monday. Instead, Powell focused on the work of the
bank's division of international finance, which was created 75 years ago. In remarks at the start of a conference tied to this anniversary, the Fed chair said staffers in that division
have devised new methods of measuring the effect of uncertainty on economic activity, including new indexes to track geopolitical risk, inflation, trade policy and economic uncertainty.
