The most mispronounced word in the world is ‘Paris’. If the rule is to pronounce foreign words the way they are pronounced in the donor language (which is a stupid rule with no justification
whatsoever) then surely ‘Paris’ is much more common than ‘karaoke’, and EVERYBODY mispronounces it — accent should be on the last syllable, and it should have a French uvular R. ‘pa-REE’.
But of course this article is just linguistic bigotry with a genteel varnish. As are the references to ‘axe’ for ‘ask’ and similar comments down the page.
