WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT MURTADAH MOHAMMAD, 27, WAITED 12 HOURS TO CALL FOR HELP AFTER HE SUBJECTED HIS SON TO A "SUSTAINED CAMPAIGN OF ABUSE" - IN COURT HE BLAMED THE USE OF

DRUGS AND ALCOHOL FOR HIS ACTIONS 05:59, 30 May 2025Updated 06:44, 30 May 2025 A dad will spend at least 45 years behind bars for the gruesome murder of his seven-year-old Jaevion Riley.

Murtadah Mohammad, aged 27, was sentenced in Hillsborough Superior Court (Northern District) on Tuesday May 27 after he pleaded guilty in April to reckless second-degree murder and

falsifying physical evidence in the death of his son, per an agency press release. In the five days leading up to Jaevion's death in January 2023 he sustained a skull fracture, a

dislodged tooth and third-degree burns to 15 percent of his body according to the New Hampshire Union Leader, WMUR and NBC10 Boston. The court heard how Mohammad waited 12 hours to call for

below Judge William Delker called Mohammad's crimes a "sustained campaign of abuse" at the father's Tuesday sentencing. "He would have had to fight for his life when

he was exposed to boiling water," Delker said, according to the Union Leader. "He must have screamed his heart out when you whipped and beat him, and none of that deterred

you," Delker said. "You left him to suffer and ultimately die without seeking help... I think we can only hope that at some point he lost consciousness and didn’t experience the

pain for the full 12 or more hours that these crimes occurred." Mohammad apologized to the boy's mother in court on Tuesday, saying: "I take full responsibility for the death

of my son, Jaevion. I should never have been using drugs and alcohol. That led to the decisions I made and ultimately led to my son's death," rports PEOPLE. But Delker remained

unconvinced: "Even now, even when your future depends on it, you haven't been able to bring yourself to acknowledge the full scope of what you did to that child, the full magnitude

of what you did," he said, per the Union Leader. Attorney General Formella said: “This was a heartbreaking case, and today’s sentence reflects the severity of the defendant’s actions.

We are deeply grateful to the trial team, investigators, and Manchester Police for their hard work and dedication in securing justice for Jaevion Riley. While no sentence can undo this

tragedy, we hope it offers some measure of accountability and closure.” Article continues below On April 1, 2025, Mr. Mohammad pled guilty to reckless Second-Degree Murder when he admitted

that he had recklessly, with extreme indifference to the value of human life, caused the death of Jaevion by subjecting Jaevion to abusive violence and not obtaining timely medical

assistance for his injuries. Mr. Mohammad also pled guilty to one count of Falsifying Physical Evidence by staging a claimed spill accident as the claimed cause of scalding injuries suffered

by Jaevion. After a sentencing hearing, the court sentenced Mr. Mohammad to 45 years to life in state prison, stand committed, on the murder count, and a consecutive sentence of two to four

years on the falsification count, to be suspended for ten years upon release on the murder sentence, with a condition that he commit no new crimes.
